Pregnancy Massage

Massage is a great way to relieve the pain and discomfort unique to pregnant women. Our pregnancy massage service can make you feel better and move better.

Pregnant women must be treated with extreme care by experienced professionals. At Balanced Bodies, we have trained staff and special equipment to make sure you experience the best treatment possible.

How pregnancy affects your body

When you fall pregnant, your body undergoes a lot of changes, and extra stress is put on your support systems. The weight and positioning of the baby causes your centre of gravity to change, and this means that other parts of your body need to start working harder.

Pregnancy often causes excess stress to your:

  • back
  • shoulders
  • neck
  • abdominal muscles.

Another symptom of pregnancy is the relaxation of your ligaments. This can destabilise your pelvic joints, change your posture, and move your pelvis forward. This, combined with the added weight of the baby, very often leads to lower back aches.

The benefits massage for pregnant women

  • release your tense muscles
  • relieve any sore spots
  • improve your circulation
  • improve your mobility
  • reduce stress
  • reduce discomfort
  • help you relax
  • make you feel great.

Our pregnancy massage facilities and equipment

Traditional massage facilities and equipment aren’t suitable for treating pregnant women. In our experience, the majority of women can’t lie face down when pregnant—even right from the start, during the first trimester—as their breasts are swollen and feel tender. And, of course, once your baby really starts to grow, you can forget about trying to lie on a standard massage table. You won’t be able to lie face down, and it’s not recommended that you lie on your back for a long period of time either. This is especially true from the midway point of pregnancy, as your uterus will be heavier, and can put pressure on an important vein that sends blood back from your legs up to your heart. That’s why you need special facilities and equipment to treat pregnant women properly.

At Balanced Bodies, we use purpose-built massage tables that have hollow areas to allow for your belly and breasts and allow you to lie face down for treatment. We also use special pillows to make sure you are comfortable.

Our pregnancy massage therapists

Pregnancy massage requires experienced therapists in prenatal massage who know how to treat pregnant women correctly and safely.

At Balanced Bodies, we have specially trained therapists in prenatal massage. Our therapists know from experience where your sore spots and aching muscles will be, and how to treat them. Even more importantly, our therapists also know the areas of your body to stay away from and which techniques not to use.

If you have any concerns about your treatment, or any special needs, make sure you communicate these with your therapist. And, of course, if anything is causing you discomfort during treatment, tell them straight away. They will happily adjust their treatment style and your positioning to make sure you get the full benefits of the treatment.
